UK Trade Minister Kemi Badenoch is visiting Washington for the first time on Monday to promote the importance of trade as a force for security and prosperity.

«The US and the UK share the same values: freedom and free trade, and the result is a partnership more important than any other in the world,» she said.

Badenoch seeks an alliance with U.S. political figures to push protectionism and strong trade alliances «to challenge the growing threat from authoritarian states.»

«I am in DC to further boost our trade relationship and work with allies on critically important issues such as strengthening supply chains, protecting our long-term energy security and creating jobs in the industries of the future,» reads the statement released by the British government.

In this sense, it has highlighted the importance of external security for both countries in relation to the economy.

«We cannot have security at home without security abroad, and we must make the global economy resilient to future shocks. Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and show how vigorous liberalism and free trade are a force for good in the world,» Badenoch said.

In addition to the ministerial portfolio leader meeting with key U.S. figures, such as Treasury Department Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo and members of Congress, she will talk with businesses, owners and consumers about barriers for women in the financial environment.

The goal is to succeed in proposing policy that will benefit women in the workplace, thereby achieving a boom in women-owned businesses in international operations.
