Emergency services have located the lifeless bodies of two more people in the area of the Armancette glacier, located in the French Alps and scene of an avalanche on Sunday that has left a total of six dead, according to a new balance released Monday by the Prosecutor’s Office.
The search teams initially located the bodies of two guides and as many clients, to which a fifth body was added late Sunday, identified as that of a woman in her 40s. On Monday, the last remaining missing person, a man, was found lifeless, according to a prosecutor quoted by France 3.
The avalanche, which reached 500 meters wide, occurred around noon on Sunday for reasons that are still under investigation on the Armancette glacier, in the Haute-Savoie. Local authorities have acknowledged that the area has seen a drastic rise in temperatures in recent days.
In addition to the deceased, the avalanche also caused one minor injury, while eight other people were unharmed.
