At least four Pakistani policemen have been killed in a clash that broke out during an anti-terrorist operation in the city of Quetta, capital of Balochistan province (west), as confirmed by the authorities, who said that one of the suspects was killed during the shooting.
The superintendent of the Quetta Police, Zohair Moshin, has indicated in declarations granted to the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’ that the operation was launched against alleged perpetrators of several attacks against the security forces in Kuchlak. He detailed that the suspects opened fire on the officers, killing four of them.
The security forces have transferred the body of the suspect to a hospital in the city to try to determine his identity, while they have seized weapons and ammunition at the scene. The armed group to which the suspected terrorist allegedly belonged is not known at this time.
The operation took place a day after the death of four people – two civilians and two policemen – in an explosion near a police car in Quetta. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and offered his condolences to the families of the victims, while reiterating his government’s commitment to fight terrorism.
