The former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has registered a »steady improvement» in his state of health over the last few days, although he will remain in the intensive care unit at the hospital in Milan where he has been admitted for more than a week.
The medical report released Thursday by the San Raffaele hospital reports an improvement in the respiratory and renal functions of the founder of Forza Italia, who has seen his health condition worsen recently after being diagnosed with leukemia, reports the AdnKronos agency.
Berlusconi, 86 years old and prime minister on three occasions –1994-1995, 2001-2006 and 2008-2011–, has been in hospital since April 5. The conservative leader had already spent several days in the same center the previous week.
His party colleague and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, said Wednesday that Berlusconi is progressing favorably and even expressed confidence that the senator would attend a major Forza Italia event scheduled for May 5 and 6 in Milan.
