Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said on Friday he does not understand why people talk about «things» he cannot have, referring to his club’s possible interest in Borussia Dortmund’s England midfielder Jude Bellingham, and asked to «accept that it is not possible».
«It’s not about Jude Bellingham my answer now, but I’ve never understood why we constantly talk about things that theoretically we can’t have. We can’t sign six players in one summer, all for 113 million euros. Everyone would say that’s clear,» the German told a news conference, confirming Liverpool are pulling out of the bidding for Bellingham, one of Europe’s most coveted players.
Klopp insisted he had «nothing to say about it», arguing that he does not talk «about the players we sign or don’t sign», nor about «speculation». «You have to realise what you can do and then work with it. That’s how I’ve always worked,» he said, comparing the situation to the presents children receive at Christmas time.
«We are not children. You wouldn’t ask a five-year-old ‘What do you want for Christmas?’ And he says he wants a Ferrari. You wouldn’t say it’s a good idea, you’d say it’s too expensive and he can’t drive it. If this child is unhappy all his life because he can’t get a Ferrari, it would be a sad life. There are moments when you have to accept that it’s not possible for us,» Klopp said.
