Thousands of people demonstrated this Sunday in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, against the government of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
The demonstrators carried Czech flags, as well as anti-government banners with inscriptions such as ‘Government and media liars’, taking a stand against the war and calling for an exit from NATO, as reported by the CTK agency.
At the same time, several speakers called for the resignation of the government because of soaring energy prices and Ukraine’s support with armaments and suggested calling strikes.
This march has taken place without altercations, unlike a similar one that took place in March, when part of the demonstrators tried to break into the building of the National Museum with the aim of removing the Ukrainian flag.
Therefore, this Sunday there were counter-demonstrators with Ukrainian and European Union flags in front of the museum. At the beginning of the march, they had to be separated by the police.
»We are ready as a government to act, (…) to listen to the interests, whether of the social partners or of different social groups, but if someone thinks that we will act under pressure and give in just because someone takes the streets, then we will certainly not do it,» the Prime Minister told the demonstrators, as reported by the CT24 channel.
