Billionaire tycoon Elon Musk claimed Sunday that the U.S. government had »total access» to users’ private messages.
Musk, in an interview with host Tucker Carlson for Fox News, said he was surprised to discover the government’s ability to read messages on his platform.
»The degree to which government agencies effectively had complete access to everything that was happening on Twitter blew my mind,» he said in an interview to be broadcast Tuesday.
»I wasn’t aware of that,» he said, before asserting that his comments included users’ direct messages, The Hill newspaper reported.
Twitter’s CEO has accumulated numerous controversies since he officially bought the social networking platform. These statements come days after he called the NPR station »hypocritical» after it abandoned Twitter for its decision to designate it as a »U.S. government-funded media outlet».
The broadcaster published, after being designated as a U.S. government-funded media outlet, an article calling the label »inaccurate» and stated, in retaliation, that it was withdrawing from the platform, »becoming the first major news website to go silent.»
