The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dimitro Lubinets, has assured that they have »dozens» of videos of public executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war at the hands of Russian servicemen.
»In the course of these nine months, we have received dozens of videos of the public execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian Army,» he said in an interview to the daily ‘Ukrainska Pravda’.
»We are talking about cutting off heads, genitals, ears, noses, limbs, phalanges of hands. That is to say, videos that are recorded by the Russian military themselves,» said Lubinets, who added that some of those responsible have already been identified, one of whom has been killed in battle.
Lubinets believes that the military and fighters on the Russian side are allegedly carrying out such crimes to maintain what he called »anti-Ukrainian hysteria», as well as to convince their own soldiers that if they are not the ones who act like this, it will be the Ukrainians who will do it.
»They want to tie their military with blood (…) Perhaps, they think that this way they can stop us. In fact, I think that, on the contrary, this motivates all Ukrainian military to liberate our cities, our territories, to return our heroes who are in captivity even earlier,» he assessed.
For Lubinets this kind of actions are typical of the »Middle Ages», an epoch, he has said, which it seems that Russia is not willing to leave behind. It does not recognize international humanitarian law, nor the Geneva Convention», he said.
Last week, a video was leaked showing a Ukrainian soldier being beheaded with a knife, allegedly by Russian fighters. Moscow reacted cautiously and disassociated itself from the events, announcing that it would open an investigation. For its part, Kiev stressed that such episodes have been frequent since the beginning of the invasion and reminded the international community of the need to continue its support.
