The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, warned on Monday that in case Russia wins the war in Ukraine, Moscow could be strengthened to launch new armed offensives against other European countries, especially those in Eastern Europe.

»If Ukraine does not receive help, Russia will win this war, which will be only the first step by Russia to extend its domination over the nations of this part of Europe», warned Duda, who stressed that the Polish population is aware of the »Russian greed» to »rule and enslave other nations».

President Duda received in Warsaw his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, to whom he reiterated that all those countries that are calling for a cessation of aid to Ukraine »actually act in the interests of Moscow» and »want Russia to overthrow Ukraine», reports PAP news agency.

This is why the Polish head of state stressed that Warsaw supports and will continue to support the Ukrainians. »We appeal to the whole world to give this support to Ukraine (…). Russia cannot win this war. If Russia wins, it will attack other countries,» he said.

For his part, Mattarella has pointed out that if Ukraine remains »at the mercy of Russia», in the future there will be attacks on other countries. »We are all appalled by some of the inhumane behavior of the Russian Armed Forces. Civilian targets and homes are being attacked, which makes this aggression even more cruel,» he noted.

Beyond the war in Ukraine, Duda and Mattarella discussed a variety of other issues, including economic cooperation and the current migration crisis in Italy, which has led Rome to implement a state of emergency in this area.

»We are defending the border of the European Union. We expect a greater support from the European institutions to the countries that are fighting against illegal migration, such as Poland and Italy, a greater understanding on the part of the European Commission», said the Polish president.

Mattarella, for his part, urged the European Union to address this issue as a problem that concerns the entire European community, and stressed that no country is capable of dealing with a migration crisis on its own.
