North Korean authorities said Monday that it is developing nuclear weapons »in self-defense» and accused the United Nations Security Council of »interfering» in its internal affairs.
The vice-chairman of the North Korean Central Military Commission, Ri Pyong Chol, has indicated that the country continues with its «self-defense measures», which are «legitimate» to protect Pyongyang from the threats posed by the United States, according to the Yonhap news agency.
Ri is known precisely for having pushed the country’s ballistic and nuclear program since North Korean leader Kim Jong Un came to power in late 2011. Now, his words come shortly after the authorities carried out a launch with an intercontinental ballistic missile ‘Hwasong 18’, which has solid fuel.
He also took the opportunity to condemn the actions of the United States, which he accused of »threatening» and carrying out »provocations», also through the use of the UN Security Council.
