UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday refused to apologize for the possible damage caused by the government of his predecessor in office, Liz Truss, to the British economy and stressed that the consequences have already been reversed.

Thus, he explained that the impact of the so-called ‘mini-budget’ driven by Truss to address the growing economic crisis caused by rising food and gas prices «has already been alleviated».

In this sense, he confirmed that the damage «has been repaired correctly», according to information from the BBC television channel. «I think it is very important that people understand what has happened since I became prime minister. During the last few weeks we have been able to observe many economic factors (…) and we have achieved an improvement,» he said.

«Now we are facing the same challenges as most countries,» he said, referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the current geopolitical context.

His argument is similar to the one given by former Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng, who has assured that he warned Truss that her economic and fiscal plan, strongly criticized and of which she had to retract, would eventually drive her out of Downing Street.
