A tornado has struck the Turkish region of Kahramanmaras, the epicenter of the strong earthquakes that claimed the lives of more than 50,000 people in February, leaving at least one dead and 44 injured in the area.

According to the Turkish media TRT, a storm in this area in the south of the country resulted on Thursday in a small tornado, which has affected homes in the area and a large number of tents and other temporary housing, placed in the aftermath of the earthquake and where many people still live.

For his part, the governor of the city of Kirikkale, the main city affected by the meteorological phenomenon, has counted at least 177 temporary houses affected, and has confirmed that six of the injured are in critical condition and two others are in very serious condition.

He also confirmed that the storm began at 16.00 hours (local time) and that the emergency devices have been working in the area since then.

Kahramanmaras was the epicenter of the major earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria in February 2022, leaving more than 50,000 people dead.
