Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski have agreed Monday to »work together» so that Kiev can join NATO »as soon as conditions allow».
»We agree that a strong, independent and prosperous Ukraine, as part of the Euro-Atlantic family and as a member of the EU and NATO, is essential for the future of European security,» the sides said in a joint statement.
They also reiterated »the importance of the historic decision of the European Union adopted on June 23 to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate country» while affirming that Tallinn »will continue to strongly support» Kiev militarily, economically and politically until its »victory».
»Estonia reaffirms its strong support for Ukraine’s accession to the EU and welcomes the impressive progress in reforms achieved in the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations,» they added.
Kallas had earlier on Monday stressed the need to end the »gray zones» that threaten security in Europe, and therefore advocated Ukraine’s earliest possible entry into the EU and NATO, in what is his first visit abroad after revalidating his post.
During his visit to the Yitomir region during the day, Kallas received from the Ukrainian President the Order of Yaroslav the Wise, which recognizes activities in various fields, including humanitarian and social ones.
