The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has noted a series of urgent measures needed to address the high cost of living in the country after referring to the achievements of his administration in the first 100 days of government.

Petro has lamented the high prices of food and services in the country, even though he has presented the reduction of the energy tariff as one of the achievements of his Executive. Even so, he has assured that he does not understand how Colombians continue paying high bills.

«It is not understood how, having all the reservoirs full and replete, we are paying 400 pesos (0.08 euros) per kilowatt per hour, as if we did not have water generating energy. The differential, when we should have cheaper energy today than in many years of Colombian history, is speculation and I believe that we must act», said the Colombian leader.

In this line, he proposed to revive the municipal slaughterhouses to also stop the increase in the price of meat.

«Colombia cannot be left in the hands of a monopoly of beef slaughterhouses, it has reached that point because the Invima ended with the figure of the municipal slaughterhouse, we must turn back,» said Petro in statements reported by the Caracol chain.

This Tuesday, the 100th day since Petro took office, his supporters have demonstrated in the main cities of the country to show their support for him.
