Russia blames «swiftness» of Ukraine’s accusations on its efforts to gain more support

The Russian government has defended that after Tuesday’s missile strike in Poland it tried to clarify «immediately» that it had nothing to do with it and attributed Kiev’s «swiftness» in blaming Moscow to its efforts to try to win more support from international partners.

In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry regretted in a statement that some NATO countries rushed to spread «false and unfounded» accusations against Moscow, attributing to Russian forces the shells that caused two fatalities on Polish territory.

The Russian government believes that Volodymyr Zelensky’s «regime» wants to «consolidate» international support at any cost, but hopes that an «impartial» investigation will clear Moscow of responsibility for Tuesday’s incident.

The Polish authorities have already ruled out in principle that they were Russian projectiles and, for now, the hypotheses are leaning more towards a Ukrainian origin. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg considers it «probable» that they came from Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses.

What Kiev’s international allies have agreed on is to hold Russia responsible for the escalation of tensions, insofar as the event in Poland took place in a context of indiscriminate bombardment of Ukraine.
