At least five people have been killed, including a minor, and 15 others injured in a shooting at a market in the town of Izeh, located in the Iranian province of Khuzestan.
According to information from the Iranian news agency ISNA, the attackers were reported to have arrived at the scene on motorcycles, from which they opened fire on the crowd gathered at the site as part of anti-government protests.
The state agency IRNA added that the number of dead and wounded included both civilians and police officers. For the moment, the causes behind the attack in Izeh are unknown.
The already fragile social stability in Iran has been further destabilized in recent weeks after the death in police custody of young Mahsa Amini, arrested for not wearing the veil correctly. This episode has led to demonstrations that have been harshly responded to by the authorities.
In this context, a large part of the international community has expressed its disagreement with the repression of the Iranian authorities and has applied sanctions to both personalities and entities of the Asian country.
