Kevin McCarthy, after the Republican victory in the US House of Representatives: «We have fired Nancy Pelosi».

U.S.
U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who has been the Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives for the past three years, has been the – PARTIDO REPUBLICANO

Kevin McCarthy, the hitherto Republican minority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, has welcomed the victory of the Republican Party in the Lower House, claiming to have «fired» Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House.

«Tonight it is official: the one-party government of the Democrats is over. We have fired Nancy Pelosi,» McCarthy said in statements to FOX News hours after his party won the 218th seat, which gives the Republican Party control of the House of Representatives.

The future Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives said that Americans «are ready» for a new direction, and that Republicans in the House «are ready to deliver».

Eight days after the midterm elections, the Republicans have won the seat they needed to wrest control of the House of Representatives from the Democrats, which will allow them to have the legislative initiative in the country.

In addition, the Republican Party will be able to obstruct the Democrats’ legislative agenda, which will presumably turn into a blockade of every measure enacted by U.S. President Joe Biden.

However, even though the Republicans control the House of Representatives and can present their own initiatives, they must pass through the signature of the President, who has the power to enact or veto laws emanating from Congress.

However, the polls predicted a «red wave» of Republicans in both chambers due to the fall in Biden’s popularity, which finally resulted in a narrow victory in the House of Representatives, while the Democratic Party maintained control of the Senate.
