Ukraine’s state-owned power operator, Ukrenergo, has warned that the Russian Armed Forces have managed to inflict damage on the vast majority of Ukrainian «large power plants», some of which have been attacked on as many as eight occasions.
«Practically all thermal and hydroelectric power plants, if we are talking about large power plants, were damaged and hit by rockets,» said Ukrenergo director Volodimir Kudristki, UNIAN agency reports.
Kudristki denounced that the escalation of destruction is «colossal», because sometimes the repair works of some power plants and the resupply of the population were not completed when Russia was already launching a new offensive.
This is why the Ukrainian authorities have been forced to implement emergency power cuts, as they need both to limit consumption and to have more time to carry out the necessary repair operations.
«As of today, the power system cannot generate as much electricity as consumers would like,» acknowledged the head of the Ukrainian state-owned power operator.
Russia has intensified its offensive against Ukraine in recent weeks, setting the country’s energy facilities as the main target in this new wave of attacks.
