The Russian Defense Ministry has accused the Ukrainian Army of launching a series of large-caliber missile attacks on the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, the scene of clashes since the outbreak of the war, on Monday.
Defense spokesman Igor Konashenkov has once again stressed that Ukraine is carrying out «provocations» aimed at «creating a threat of disaster» at the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Konashenkov welcomed the good work of the Russian artillery, which has managed to shoot down the projectiles launched by Ukraine from Marganets, on the other side of the Dnieper River, in front of Energodar, the town where the nuclear facilities are actually located.
«The radiation situation at the nuclear power plant remains normal,» Konashenkov said, although Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has insisted that the constant attacks on the facility are causing Moscow’s «extreme concern».
«It is very important for everyone to calmly analyze what is happening and be aware that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are shelling a nuclear power plant, committing actions that are fraught with a threat to nuclear, environmental and other security for a long time already,» Peksov has denounced.
Ukraine has so far not responded to the accusations, although it has denounced another series of attacks in Russian-occupied localities of the Zaporiyia region, such as Tokmak or Melitopol, according to Ukrinform agency.
