At least six people have been killed in a shooting at a supermarket in the U.S. city of Chesapeake, in the state of Virginia, as confirmed by local police, who added that the suspect has also died.
«Chesapeake Police confirm seven fatalities, including the shooter, from last night’s shooting at the Sam’s Circle Walmart,» local authorities said in a brief message on their account on the social network Twitter.
A spokesman for Sentara General Hospital told CNN affiliate WTKR that five people have been admitted to the facility, although no further details have been released.
The incident took place at around 22.20 hours (local time), when an armed person broke into the supermarket and opened fire on those present. Chesapeake authorities have asked neighbors to stay away from the store during the investigation. «Our rescuers are well trained and prepared to respond; please give them space to do so,» they have noted.
