Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council after Russia intensified its attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Wednesday.
«The killing of civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure are acts of terror. Ukraine continues to demand a resolute response from the international community to these crimes,» the president said on his official Twitter profile.
For his part, Russia’s deputy representative to the UN, Dimitri Polianski, has ridiculed Ukraine, stating that Kiev’s request is given because the neighboring country is «frightened» by the attacks on its energy infrastructure.
Thus, Polianski has launched a message on his channel of the social network Telegram in which he has denounced that Zelenski has made his request through a video, thus breaking the rules of procedure of the UN Security Council.
«The Kiev regime has made a wonderful gift to Westerners before Thanksgiving,» the Russian representative has added with derision, who added that the Presidency of the UN Security Council has set the meeting at 22.00 (Spanish time).
The Kiev authorities have reported on Wednesday that at least three people have died and six have been wounded as a result of new bombings carried out by Russian forces against several parts of the country, which has caused blackouts and cuts in the supply of drinking water in several areas.
Oleksii Kuleba, spokesman for the local authorities, has warned that Russia has attacked vital infrastructure as well as the «residential sector» of the city, and has expressed that there is a danger that these attacks will be repeated.
