The public energy company of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Donetsk Electric Networks (DTEK), has announced that power supplies have been restored following Wednesday’s Russian attacks, although it noted that there are still demand restrictions.

«Power workers of DTEK Donetsk Electric Networks, together with all rescue services, have appeased the consequences of the attacks on power facilities inflicted by Russia on November 23. Now the electricity supply in the Donetsk region has been restored,» the company said in a statement.

However, DTEK Donetsk has had to follow the instructions of the national energy operator Ukrenergo by applying emergency restrictions on electricity supply in the Donetsk region, so some consumers are temporarily without power.

For them, power supply will be restored «after stabilization of the situation in the power system,» according to Ukrenergo’s instructions, as well as after completion of repairs on lines damaged by shelling.

«The situation in the power system after another terrorist missile attack by Russia is extremely difficult. Power workers are doing everything possible around the clock to ensure that people get electricity as soon as possible,» the utility has detailed, asking its customers to be «as responsible as possible» with their electricity consumption to help the power system.

Authorities in Kiev reported on Wednesday that at least three people have been killed and six wounded as a result of new shelling carried out by Russian forces against several points of the country, which has caused blackouts and cuts in drinking water supply in several areas.

These attacks have been condemned, among others, by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, who said on his Twitter profile that «depriving millions of electricity, tents and heating during the winter is cruel and inhuman».
