The Prime Ministers of Poland and Lithuania, Mateusz Morawiecki and Ingrida Simonyte, have signed a joint declaration in Kiev with their Ukrainian counterpart, Denis Shmigal, underlining their support for the Eastern European country’s accession to the Atlantic Alliance.

The visit of Morawiecki and Simonyte takes place within the framework of the so-called Lublin Triangle, an alliance formed by the three countries and whose main objective is to ensure the security of Ukraine and the region in general.

The joint statement of the Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian heads of government includes intensifying the discussion within NATO on Ukraine’s accession to the organization in view of the next summit of the allies, scheduled for mid-July next year in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.

Morawiecki, Simonyte and Shmigal also stressed the importance of strengthening military, financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine in the context of the Russian invasion launched at the end of February by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As with NATO, the three leaders emphasized their commitment to facilitate the start of talks in the European Union on Ukraine’s accession to the bloc, according to Ukrinform news agency.
