Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said that arms, financial and intelligence aid to Ukraine is a way to strengthen the Ukrainian position for future negotiations with Russia.

«Russia is not at the negotiating table at all. Therefore, our goal at the moment is simply to strengthen Ukraine’s position on the ground through military aid, Intelligence exchange and financial support,» Joly said.

In an interview for the British newspaper ‘The Guardian’, the Canadian diplomatic representative showed her conviction that the war in Ukraine will be solved with an agreement between the parties, as «that has been the case in all conflicts».

Joly ruled out that among the members of the Atlantic Alliance there is reluctance to continue supplying arms to Ukraine and stressed Canada’s promise to send nearly 500 million euros in military aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Regarding the incessant Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, Joly insisted that this maneuver by Moscow has only united the allies and increased their future support for Ukraine.

«We need to make sure that Ukrainians can get through this difficult winter,» said the Canadian representative, who assured that Ukraine’s allies are looking for solutions to the energy crisis.
