The office of the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, informed on Tuesday that the President has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted on Tuesday due to a gastrointestinal hemorrhage, assuring that he has recovered and will resume his agenda.

«We thank the population and the media for their concern for the health of President Giammattei. We inform that he was discharged after undergoing medical studies corresponding to an acute gastritis, he is stable and will resume his agenda as soon as possible», explained the spokesman of the Presidency, Kevin Lopez Oliva.

López Oliva said that the country’s leader, who was undergoing tests during the day on Monday to rule out a gastric ulcer, expects to resume his work schedule on Wednesday.

However, health personnel confirmed to ConCriterio that the Guatemalan president has been hospitalized at the Centro Medico Hospital, in the country’s capital, since Saturday, after he suffered a gastrointestinal hemorrhage, after presenting anemia due to blood loss.

Meanwhile, sources close to the president explained that he began to feel ill after a departmental tour at the end of last week.
