At least two dead and 24 wounded were killed Wednesday in a suspected suicide attack on a police truck in Quetta, the most populous city in the Balochistan region of western Pakistan.
Of the two people killed, one is a policeman and the second is a minor, GeoTV has learned.
As for the injured, there are 20 officers and four civilians who sustained injuries in the attack. Two of the policemen are in serious condition, said the deputy inspector general of police in Quetta, Ghulam Azfar Mahesar.
«The explosion took place near a police truck, the vehicle overturned and fell into a ditch due to the impact (of the explosion),» explained Mahesar, who assured that it was a suicide attack, as the remains of an attacker were found near the scene of the crime.
«According to the crime scene, it is estimated that 25 kilograms of explosives were used,» said the deputy police inspector.
Since the 2000s, the region has had a guerrilla presence of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), considered a terrorist organization by Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Since then, it has waged a bloody struggle with the Islamabad authorities for the self-determination of Balochistan, and has even been responsible for the ethnic cleansing of non-Baloch minorities in the province.
