Kenyan President William Ruto has suspended four members of the electoral commission who refused to validate the results of the last presidential election in which he won.

The decision concerns Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya, all accused of violating their duties by refusing to accept the announcement of the results made by the body’s chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

Thus, the Kenyan Presidency said that a tribunal should rule on the situation of these four persons and «prepare and deliver a report with recommendations». It also stressed that it must «exercise all the powers granted to it by law for the proper execution of its mandate».

The four affected people accused Chebukati of manipulating the results to benefit Ruto over his main rival, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who had the support of outgoing Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Kenyan Supreme Court endorsed Ruto’s victory on September 5 after he won 50.5 percent of the vote. Odinga obtained 48.85 percent of the ballots, although he immediately rejected the results and denounced fraud.
