The City Council of the town of Tulchin, in the Ukrainian region of Vinnitsia, has informed that it will remove from the public space monuments erected in honor of Russian celebrities, such as the military man Alexander Suvorov, or the poet Aleksander Pushkin.

The mayor of Tulchin, Valeri Vesniani, has detailed that the decision has been taken after all the political formations present in the City Council have voted in favor of removing «the commemorative objects related to the history and culture of Russia and the Soviet Union».

Along with the statues of Suvorov and Pushkin, commemorative plaques and inscriptions recalling the Civil War and the Second World War will also be removed from the streets of the city, as they are considered to have ideological overtones.

The authorities of numerous Ukrainian localities have made progress in the removal of monuments to Russian historical figures. In fact, Odessa announced on Wednesday the demolition of a statue in honor of Catherine II.
