The Ukrainian Embassy in Lisbon has received two envelopes considered suspicious by security forces, who have already cut off traffic in the vicinity of the diplomatic headquarters.
After the embassy alerted the police of these suspicious envelopes, members of the Special Police Unit have moved to the place, according to police sources quoted by the Lusa news agency.
The Embassy also confirmed that it had informed the Public Security Police of the presence of «suspicious correspondence», according to Lusa.
Road traffic has been cut off in Lisbon’s Avenida das Descubiertas, where the embassy is located, the Public Security Police informed the Portuguese newspaper ‘Público’.
«The PSP has adopted security measures in the context of the reinforcement of the security measures of the diplomatic facilities, among which is the temporary shutdown of traffic on Descubiertas Avenue,» the PSP has indicated. The Russian Consulate in Lisbon is also located on the same avenue.
The Portuguese Internal Security System announced last Saturday the reinforcement of the protection of the Ukrainian Embassy in Portugal as a consequence of the mail with threats received at the Ukrainian Embassy in Spain.
