Authorities in Australia reported Monday that the ForceNet communication platform, a tool used by the country’s Ministry of Defense, has suffered a cyberattack that may have compromised the personal data of current or former workers.
ForceNet is managed by an external provider, although the company itself has assured that no data has been compromised. However, the Defense Department fears that some personal information may have been leaked, such as dates of birth or enlistment.
In a message addressed to its personnel, the defense authorities have emphasized that they are investigating the case and have said they take the matter «very seriously», according to information from the newspaper ‘The Australian’.
The incident took place just five days after Medibank, a major Australian private health insurance company, confirmed that it had suffered a cyber attack that led to the theft of data on at least four million customers.
