An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck Thursday in the Indonesian city of Sukabumi, about 100 kilometers from the capital, Jakarta.

The tremor occurred on the ground 22 kilometers southeast of Sukabumi, a town with more than 300,000 inhabitants.

The hypocenter of the earthquake is located 104 kilometers deep, as reported by the Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) of Indonesia.

According to the Indonesian television channel Kompas, the earthquake could be felt in Jakarta.

Although the authorities have indicated that for the moment there is no risk of tsunami, they have asked to be careful of possible aftershocks.

Last month, an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 left more than 300 people dead, 7,700 injured, of whom more than 500 were seriously injured in the aftermath.
