The former president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, was transferred tonight to Barbadillo prison, in Ate, after the Public Prosecutor’s Office opened proceedings against him for rebellion and conspiracy.
After being held for several hours at the headquarters of the Prefecture in Lima, the former president left accompanied by a strong police operation.
Castillo has been in the Los Cibeles police station, to finally be transferred by helicopter to the Police Special Operations Directorate (Diroes), in the district of Ate, where he will stay for 48 hours and where former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori is also being held.
According to the police report on Castillo’s arrest, the former leader was on his way to the Mexican Embassy in the company of his lawyer – former Prime Minister Anibal Torres – and his family.
