The communications coordinator of the presidential campaign of the winner of Sunday’s elections, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Edinho Silva, confirmed on Monday that he has begun talks for the transition of government with the Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueriega.
«I was in contact this Monday afternoon with the Minister of the Civil House Ciro Nogueira, at my own request, who immediately showed willingness to lead the transition process on behalf of the current Bolsonaro government,» said Silva in a press release picked up by the Brazilian media G1.
Silva, who is also mayor of Araraquara, a municipality in the state of Sao Paulo, highlighted the «republican and democratic» attitude of Nogueriega, who during Bolsonaro’s mandate has performed duties equivalent to those of a prime minister.
Brazilian legislation recognizes the right of the president-elect to form a team to monitor government data and define the strategies to be followed at the beginning of the mandate that will start in January, together with the outgoing administration.
In an interview given to the Brazilian media UOL, he was positive about these talks and confident that in a few days a «peaceful, mature and adult» transition will begin.
«We believe that the dialogue will prosper and that we can start the transition in the next few days. A peaceful, mature and adult transition, especially because the elections are over and what is at stake today is Brazil and the interests of the Brazilian population,» he said.
He also referred to the blockades organized by Bolsonaro’s truck drivers and assured that these are the most radical sectors of Bolsonarism and that they should not affect the dialogue with the political core of the hitherto president.
«The majority sentiment, including the parties that make up Bolsonaro’s government today and the leaders that make up Bolsonaro’s government, the signals we have received are signs of dialogue construction. And with interests, the interests of the Brazilian population,» he concluded.
