At least six people were killed Tuesday by a landslide following a landslide triggered by heavy rains during the last day in the Philippines, the National Disaster Agency said.

Norman Ranon, lieutenant colonel of the Philippine Police, said that five of the victims were construction workers who were working in Tagaytay City, south of Manila, when the incident occurred.

One of the workers is unaccounted for, while two others were rescued and taken to a local hospital. All of them were resting inside their respective barracks when the collapse occurred.

«The ground on which the barracks were built was not level and one of the walls was higher,» Ranon said.

Heavy monsoon rains since last week in the Philippines have caused flooding and landslides, especially in provinces like Ifugao and Bataan.
