The German government has approved this Wednesday the project to legalize cannabis, which would authorize the purchase and possession of up to 30 grams, with limitations in terms of points of sale or accessibility of young people to the drug.

The plan, which also affects tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), contemplates that both this substance and cannabis will cease to be illegal, pending to see how the budding regulation will fit in with the regulatory framework approved at the European level.

In their coalition agreement, Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals have already agreed to approve «the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for consumption purposes in authorized stores». The sale will be in «specialized stores», according to the bill, which also opens the door to distribution in pharmacies.

The Executive admits that the international legal framework offers «limited options to implement the coalition’s project», although the specific details may still change during the parliamentary processing of the new law.
