Hundreds of people gathered Wednesday at Masha Amini’s grave in Aichi Cemetery in the Iranian city of Saqqez to protest against the government more than a month after the young woman died while in police custody after being arrested for violating the Islamic dress code.

The demonstrators have thus honored the memory of the young woman, who has become a symbol of the protests against the repression of the Iranian authorities, and have chanted slogans such as «Ali (Khamenei) is overthrown», «death to the dictator» and «we are all Masha», among others.

The security forces have blocked several roads leading to the cemetery, although those present have arrived on foot to the area where the tomb is located, where a religious ceremony has also taken place, according to information from the Iran International television channel. Despite the threats received since Amini’s death, his family has announced that they will also attend the protests on Wednesday.

For its part, the Center for Cooperation of the Parties of Kurdistan in Iran has urged in a statement to gather in typical Kurdish clothes «next to the tombs of the martyrs» throughout this afternoon, in addition to «filling squares and streets» as a sign of protest.

Activist groups have called for protests in several parts of the country, including Shariati Street in Tehran, the capital, and its main squares to commemorate the fact that 40 days have passed since Amini passed away, a relevant period of time according to Iranian tradition.

The authorities have reported that throughout the morning protests have already been registered in Tehran, where the workers of one of the main refineries have organized a strike that ended shortly afterwards, according to information from the IRNA agency.
