Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday oversaw nuclear deterrent force exercises in which a «massive» attack was rehearsed, which, according to the government, would be in response to a hypothetical external aggression.
The maneuvers, which have involved movements by land, sea and air, have served to verify the level of preparation of forces that Putin has threatened to mobilize in the framework of the war launched in Ukraine, according to a Kremlin communiqué. All the missiles launched, ballistic and cruise missiles, have successfully reached their targets.
During a meeting of the Russian security leadership, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed Putin of these preparations for a «massive» attack, with which Russia would respond to «an enemy nuclear attack».
The President took advantage of the meeting to order the reinforcement of security in Russia’s energy infrastructures, as well as at key transport points, in response to the attack on the Crimean bridge and an alleged sabotage plan at the Kursk nuclear power plant.
