The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, has commemorated this Thursday the 45th anniversary of the birth of the Civil Association Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, assuring that the members of the Human Rights organization is «an example of how to fight».
«The Grandmothers and Mothers are an example of how to fight. And the reality is that we have to take great care of what they represent: respect, dignity, the search for truth and justice without ever asking for revenge or being violent,» said the president in words of recognition to the members of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo at the event ‘Grandmothers 45 years. The search continues’.
«I would not have been at peace with my spirit if I had not been here tonight, Estela. You know the commitment we have with you, it is the same commitment of Cristina, of all of us», said Fernandez to the head of the Grandmothers, according to a statement from the Argentine Presidency.
Finally, the President highlighted the «struggle to recover the grandchildren» through a search that has already led to the recovery of 130 granddaughters and grandsons who have been able to recover their identity.
Grandmothers Plaza de Mayo, founded by twelve women, is an association that searches for the children born in captivity of those who disappeared during the last Argentine military dictatorship (1976-1983).
