The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, will hold a face-to-face meeting on Tuesday in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, where they hope to address bilateral relations and issues between the two South American nations.
This has been confirmed Monday by the Colombian Presidency in a statement in which they point out that Petro will travel on Tuesday, along with a working team, to the neighboring country for a «lunch» with Maduro.
«The topics to be discussed at the meeting of the leaders will be the bilateral relationship between the two countries, the reopening of borders and the re-entry of Venezuela to the Inter-American Human Rights system,» reads the statement released by Bogota.
The meeting, says the Colombian Presidency, is framed in Petro’s «leadership» to boost the regional economy and socialize South America’s agenda towards the interests of the bloc and the protection of the Amazon as part of the prelude to the Climate Summit, scheduled for the second week of November in Egypt.
Relations between Bogota and Caracas, after years of disagreements under Colombian President Ivan Duque, now seem to be returning to normal since Petro’s arrival to the Presidency. Since August, both countries have already announced the normalization of their relations as well as the reopening of borders.
