The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday rejected Russia’s proposal for a commission to investigate alleged U.S. biolaboratories on Ukrainian territory.
Russia’s request received only two votes in favor – its own and that of China – while the United Kingdom, the United States and France opposed it. Nine other delegations abstained, according to the Russian agency TASS.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russian government has repeatedly denounced the existence of US «biomilitary» laboratories on Ukrainian territory where «biological agents potentially useful as biological weapons» are allegedly being worked on.
The U.S. was quick to respond and in early March already branded Russia’s accusations «false information.» «This is absurd. It is the kind of disinformation operation that we have seen repeatedly from the Russians over the years in Ukraine and other countries,» said Jen Psaki, who was then serving as White House spokeswoman.
