At least four people have been killed and numerous homes have been burned down in an attack on Wednesday night by unidentified gunmen on an IDP camp in southeastern Niger.
Sources quoted by the Nigerian news portal Actu Niger have indicated that the attack was executed in the camp of Ngagala Peulh, located near the locality of N’Guigmi, in the province of Diffa, with no claim of authorship so far.
The region of Diffa, bathed by Lake Chad, is the scene of relatively frequent attacks by Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA).
The African country also faces a terrorist threat in the west from Al Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates in the regions of Tillabéri and Tahoua, located in the ‘three borders’ area – next to Mali and Burkina Faso.
