South Korean President Yoon Seok Yeol on Thursday ordered the creation of an integrated support center for the victims and injured of the stampede that took place on October 29 in the Itaewon district of Seoul, the country’s capital, where 156 people died.

Yoon urged his advisors to set up a plan for the creation of the center, as reported by spokesman Lee Jae Myung, who explained that the center will allow the delivery of aid to the families of the victims to cover the costs of funerals and treatment, both physical and psychological.

The head of state also called for the creation of a psychological help center to assist victims in the treatment of various pathologies and syndromes, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

«We have to achieve a great transformation to make Korea safe by properly addressing each factor behind the safety of society as a whole,» Yoon said, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The Halloween tragedy has raised controversy over the police performance and has led the opposition to call for the early dismissal of Interior Minister Lee Sang Min and National Police Chief Yoon He Keun for their response that night.
