The European Commission has announced that the new cross-border cooperation program in the European Union, ‘Interreg’, will provide for more than 66 million euros in initiatives involving Ukraine.
Under the program adopted Friday for a period up to 2027, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, three Member States bordering Ukraine, will work to ensure access to health services and to strengthen their systems, as well as on climate adaptation and disaster prevention initiatives.
According to Cohesion Commissioner Elisa Ferreira, this program is part of the EU’s support and solidarity with Ukraine in the midst of war. «It will help Ukraine and neighboring Member States to face common challenges and take advantage of shared opportunities,» she said.
«Ukraine is part of the European family, and this is once again another tangible sign of collaboration on a common path forward,» the Portuguese commissioner stressed, on a cross-border cooperation program endowed with 1.1 billion in total.
The initiative is also expected to help bring Kiev into line with European standards in public administration and promote legal and administrative cooperation to resolve common obstacles facing border regions.
