Germany’s Justice Minister Marco Buschmann on Friday offered assistance to the Ukrainian authorities in view of their possible entry into the European Union during his visit to Kiev, the country’s capital.
Buschmann, who met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Denis Maljuska, said that Berlin supports the country «in complying with the legal standards in the framework of the admission process to join the community bloc».
Thus, he stressed that the German authorities will help Kiev «to achieve the necessary reforms and put an end to corruption, which continues to be a problem for Ukraine even during the war».
This is the minister’s first visit to the country since the invasion began last February 24. «We are with Ukraine and will continue to provide support in the future,» he said.
Buschmann also met with the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, before the anti-aircraft alarms began to sound. Maljuska, for his part, said he appreciated the words of the German government and appreciated the fact that they had travelled to the country despite the situation.
