Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoli Antonov, has painted a stark picture of the medium-term future of relations between the two countries in the midst of the Ukrainian war as he believes that Washington is doing everything possible to «kick Russia out of everything» despite the need for dialogue.
«We firmly believe that a dialogue between our countries is necessary, not only in the interests of Russia and the United States, but for the sake of the whole international society,» Antonov explained in statements to the TASS agency.
However, the ambassador indicated that, as things stand, the Kremlin does not perceive a «possible improvement of Russian-American relations, at least in the medium-term perspective, under the current diplomatic conditions».
The ambassador considered that these efforts by the United States to remove Russia from the international scene are completely unsuccessful.
«It is impossible to ‘cancel’ Russia. There are problems, which cannot be solved without Russia’s participation,» he explained in relation to such issues as «strategic stability, in the sphere of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, global cybersecurity or climate change.»
The ambassador reminded Washington that «all the countries of the world have their eyes on» both powers and recalled the «particular responsibility of both countries for international peace and stability».
