U.S. President Joe Biden predicted on Monday that the Democratic Party will have majority control of the Senate after the mid-term elections, which are held this Tuesday.

Speaking to the press moments before boarding the Marine One helicopter with First Lady Jill Biden, the U.S. president said he is optimistic and confident that his party will win control of the upper house, the White House said in a statement.

However, Biden confessed that he sees it «difficult» for the Democrats to win the House of Representatives, since, unlike the Senate, the Lower House «is tougher».

Polls show that in the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are at stake, the Republicans have it easier, since they would win 216 seats, only two seats away from gaining control of the chamber, while the Democrats would win 199 seats.

A total of 20 seats remain to be decided. Practically all polls give the Republicans as favorites to wrest control of the lower house from their Democratic rivals.
