The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has announced a subsidy for mothers who are heads of household of 500,000 pesos per month (about 102 euros) that will allow them to «overcome poverty».
«After presiding over the Extraordinary Equity Roundtable, today we are kicking off the program that benefits mothers who are heads of household with 500,000 pesos per month. This is the first measure to overcome poverty,» Petro noted on Twitter.
This aid will replace the Solidarity Income program and will benefit more than one million women. It aims to improve the quality of life of more than 340,000 households that currently do not have any type of assistance from the state.
The Department of Social Prosperity, for its part, has announced that 400,000 million pesos (81.57 million euros) will be allocated to guarantee these payments to mothers of children under five years of age.
