A judge has decreed this Tuesday preventive detention against the alleged feminicide who ended the life of Ariadna Fernanda Lopez Diaz after the Prosecutor’s Office of Mexico’s capital, Mexico City, ordered his arrest on Monday after he surrendered to authorities in the capital of the state of Nueva Leon, Monterrey.
After a little more than an hour appearing before the courts of the Superior Court of Justice in the Doctores neighborhood, judicial authorities have qualified as legal the arrest of Rautel N, the main suspect in the femicide case of Ariadna Fernanda López Díaz, as reported by the newspaper ‘Milenio’.
The 27-year-old woman, who lived in Mexico City, disappeared last October 30 after meeting with a group of friends in the Condesa neighborhood of the capital. Two days later some cyclists found her body on a road in the neighboring state of Morelos.
Mexican authorities claim that the suspect and his partner, Vanessa, have alleged links to the staff of the Morelos Prosecutor’s Office in a «cover-up case» by the Morelos prosecutor, Uriel Carmona Gándara, which has been denounced by the head of the Mexico City government, Claudia Sheinbaum.
In this way, Sheinbaum asked the Prosecutor’s Office to intervene after accusing prosecutor Gándara of having an «alleged relationship» with the suspect, since he assured at first that the woman died from alcohol intoxication, although a later autopsy performed in Mexico City revealed that the victim had been beaten.
Ariadna’s disappearance and subsequent death has once again highlighted the violence against women and girls throughout the country. Cases of femicides have been on the rise in recent years, with 2021 being the worst on record with 1,004 murders recorded.
