Republican Senator Ron Johnson has won re-election to a third term for the state of Wisconsin even though he was the Democratic Party’s main target to unseat, according to projections by NBC News and CNN.
Johnson has thus prevailed over his rival, Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, after a tough campaign with some low blows. According to a Wesleyan Media Project study, 90 percent of Johnson’s campaign ads were attacks on Barnes.
Barnes had a lead over Johnson of about 5 points in the polls as of September, but the campaign has allowed the Republican candidate to flip the polls.
Johnson is the Republican spokesman on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which will allow him to push for investigations into the performance of Joe Biden’s administration, corruption cases and alleged White House influence on the FBI and Justice Department.
