The commander of the Chechen forces, Apti Alaudinow, who is also secretary of the Chechen Security Council, has been added to Poland’s sanctions list in retaliation for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
«He is likely to use his financial resources, funds or economic resources to directly or indirectly support aggression against Ukraine,» the Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration said in a statement.
Despite the fact that Alaudinow is currently not included in the European Union sanctions lists, Polish authorities have defended that he has «personal, organizational, economic or financial links» or is directly related to actors with such links in the framework of the Ukrainian war.
Alaudinow is a major general in the Russian Interior Ministry and also commander of the Chechen battalion Ramzan Kadirov ‘Akhmat’, which conducts combat operations in Ukraine, according to various Polish media reports.
